Each year our international student host program matches interested incoming International Students with families in the local area, members of the greater Kansas City People to People Chapter.

A Friendship Program

The International Student Host Program is a friendship program, and does not involve home-stays. International students don't live with her hosting families. Instead, they join the host in activities that expose them to aspects of U.S. life that they may not otherwise experience; for example, join the family for dinner, sports, concerts, cultural events or sightseeing around the greater Kansas City area, spend holidays and other family related activities together. Participating in the program is voluntary for both students and hosts.

Why be a Kansas City Host

The students come from various parts of the world, and sometimes had never been to the U.S. before or have not been away from home for such long periods of time. This program is an exciting and unique opportunity to engage students and families in direct citizen diplomacy in the greater Kansas City area, and let students learn firsthand about the importance and value of citizen diplomacy and the value of volunteerism from the participating chapter members.

Why a Foreign Student should participate

  • Are you interested in making new friends and long-lasting relationships here in the USA?
  • Are you willing to learn more about American culture lifestyle?
  • Are you looking for additional experiences outside of school campus and involvement with local community?
  • Are you looking for an additional support system and someone to confide in, or get advice from, or mentorship?

If so, this program is perfect for you! We invite you to participate in our International Student Host Program during the next academic year. Each year students are matched with hosts who may be from families with children, couples, or single volunteers who are eager to learn about other cultures and lifestyles, making friendships all around the world that often last beyond the college years of the student.

The program allows students to transition into a new life easier, making new friends and long-lasting connections and participate fully within the local community. Students learn about the American culture and obtain family like support from the participating host families.
